I am smiling.

First, it takes a lot to make me cower or be slighted by negative reviews of my books. I prefer to learn from the mistakes pointed out so I grow as an author.

Well, I have a few negative reviews, but this one takes the cake. Of course, I have had one that insults me as an Author downright but everyone has a right to their opinions – of me, my work, or anything else that they cannot handle about me…haha.

Anyway, first and foremost, when a book is reviewed understanding the genre of the book is very important. Under the fiction category, you can write anything you want as long as you get a complete story that relates to the scenes, the protagonist, the antagonist, and the storyline. Plus, it is best if you read a book with an open mind and not equate the story to the author’s life and experiences. Most times, stories come out of the oven about everyday happenings about life in general. Other people’s lives make interesting storylines too. You watch, learn, discern and write – all in anonymity. Fiction doesn’t have to be believable!

Oh, where to start when reviewing this poor excuse for a book? First off, where’s the dialogue? Fully 98% of the book (I’m being generous – it’s probably closer to 99%) is exposition, with the lead character, Marie, telling us what happened. In fact, the very first thing in quotation marks happens at 24% into the book, on page 16 of the Kindle version, and it’s a thought Marie has, not a conversation. All tell and no show. Also, it would be nice if the author stuck to one tense, but she doesn’t. And the book is full of complete, nonsensical happenings, eg, missiles explode at Marie’s feet but she is only ‘slightly injured.’ !!! And what are the mysterious laser satellites that seem to play a part in the story? Can’t figure out what they are or what they’re really doing.

My apologies to the author. I understand that writing a book is difficult, but I can’t even bring myself to say, “Nice try.” This one just doesn’t make the cut, and I find it difficult to believe the other reviews of this book (three of them, all four stars, as I write this). Save your money, folks. NOT recommended!
