Customer opinion

I am smiling.
First, it takes a lot to make me cower or be slighted by negative reviews of my books. I prefer to learn from the mistakes pointed out so I grow as an author.
Well, I have a few negative reviews, but this one takes the cake. Of course, I have had one that insults me as an Author downright but everyone has a right to their opinions – of me, my work, or anything else that they cannot handle about me…haha.
Anyway, first and foremost, when a book is reviewed understanding the genre of the book is very important. Under the fiction category, you can write anything you want as long as you get a complete story that relates to the scenes, the protagonist, the antagonist, and the storyline. Plus, it is best if you read a book with an open mind and not equate the story to the author’s life and experiences. Most times, stories come out of the oven about everyday happenings about life in general. Other people’s lives make interesting storylines too. You watch, learn, discern and write – all in anonymity. Fiction doesn’t have to be believable!
1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible! Utter nonsense, completely unbelievable.

Oh, where to start when reviewing this poor excuse for a book? First off, where’s the dialogue? Fully 98% of the book (I’m being generous – it’s probably closer to 99%) is exposition, with the lead character, Marie, telling us what happened. In fact, the very first thing in quotation marks happens at 24% into the book, on page 16 of the Kindle version, and it’s a thought Marie has, not a conversation. All tell and no show. Also, it would be nice if the author stuck to one tense, but she doesn’t. And the book is full of complete, nonsensical happenings, eg, missiles explode at Marie’s feet but she is only ‘slightly injured.’ !!! And what are the mysterious laser satellites that seem to play a part in the story? Can’t figure out what they are or what they’re really doing.
My apologies to the author. I understand that writing a book is difficult, but I can’t even bring myself to say, “Nice try.” This one just doesn’t make the cut, and I find it difficult to believe the other reviews of this book (three of them, all four stars, as I write this). Save your money, folks. NOT recommended!

Anyway, thank you, CJ, for reading. I only wish you could have understood the whole context of the story better.
I narrate most of my stories. (Not making an excuse, but telling you the writing method that works for me).
There is one important reason why I showcased this review here:
Please don’t insult the other readers who have given me better ratings in their reviews. It is not a nice thing to judge their intellect or ability to write as they feel about a story they have read. You have your opinions and they have theirs.
I feel more for them after reading your comment on this review.
Also, anonymously writing a bad review leaves much to be desired.
I have gone through so much in my life that I can honestly say that I have been through hell and back. Nothing deters me these days.
Thank you, and have a great day. Happy Reading!

When I read this: My apologies to the author. I understand that writing a book is difficult, but I can’t even bring myself to say, “Nice try.”, the first thing I thought was that they are not apologetic. If they were, they wouldn’t have taken the time and effort to write and post.
A variety of ratings does give legitimacy to the book, but a review like this seems just malicious. One of my books received a 1-star, but it was the 3-star on another that bothered me more.
We just have to shrug them off, right?

Yes, we just shrug off the malicious comments. Not all readers think the same. We just keep writing and move on to our next book. Thanks so much for commenting. Wish you the best with your books.

A befitting reply, Shobana. I wonder where this person’s anger is sprouting from…
You are a strong and level-headed person. Unfortunately many are not. Keep going and keep writing. 🙂
